Bill Briggs, Former Official Who Oversaw Paycheck Protection Program, to Manage The Baas Association
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 23, 2023 – AUSTIN, TX - The Banking as a Service Association today announced the hire of William Briggs to serve as its first Chief Executive Officer. Briggs has spent more than two decades at the intersection of financial services issues, technology, and public policy. He previously served as the Acting Associate Administrator in the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Capital Access where he oversaw all aspects of the historic Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). |
“The Banking as a Service Association is honored to have Bill Briggs take on this leadership role,” said Dave Mayo, Co-Founder of the Banking as a Service Association. “The Paycheck Protection Program was the watershed moment for bank partnerships with fintech companies. Bill has seen firsthand how powerful these partnerships can be in meeting the financial needs of Americans.”
“Banking as a Service is a growing business for many financial institutions,” Briggs said. “As this industry practice takes shape, it is important that we set standards for safe and compliant practices in BaaS to ensure the protection of consumers and the soundness of every participating bank.”
The Banking as a Service Association was founded in 2022 part of the Bankers Helping Bankers network. It provides a unified voice for financial institutions which are currently engaged in the business of Banking as a Service. The BaaS Association also helps establish sound bank-fintech partnerships, including those who provide banking services for underbanked and underserved communities.
“I look forward to working with bankers, financial technology providers, regulators, and lawmakers to outline our priorities as an industry association as we expand Banking as a Service nationwide."
